Fishing

Teton Valley has a well-deserved great reputation for its fishing. Whether you are looking for remote high mountain streams or nearby free-flowing rivers, you will find trophy cutthroat trout, bass and much more. The smooth currents of the Teton River flow are alive with native cutthroats (catch and release), rainbow trout, mountain whitefish and brook trout. The area is a favorite of cunning anglers who keep secret their special sweet spots. The river has a reputation of evenly cool temperatures, and opportunities to catch larger fish are much greater than in many other western fishing areas. Also nearby is the South Fork of the Snake River. It is one of the best cutthroat fishing areas in the nation, with an estimated 7,000 fish per mile.

More than 10 world-class blue-ribbon wild trout streams, including the Henry’s Fork, Silver Creek and the St. Joe River, are scattered throughout Idaho. Its rugged mountains contain more than 1,500 high mountain lakes with good trout fishing. Numerous large natural lakes and reservoirs provide a wide variety of fishing opportunities for warm and cold-water species. Unlike other states, most Idaho fishing waters are located in the public domain and are open to the public – and access is free.
